The film Vettaiyan, starring the two giants of Indian cinema, Amitabh Bachchan and Rajinikanth, has been released. It is directed by T.J. Gnanavel, who made a strong mark with the film Jai Bhim. In this movie, Rajinikanth is paired with the ‘Iron Lady’ Manju Warrier as the lead actress, while Telugu actor Rana Daggubati plays the villain. The cast also includes notable actors like Malayalam star Fahadh Faasil, hailed by fans as the ‘Acting Demon,’ the mesmerizing beauty Tushara Vijayan, the ‘Graceful Personality’ Abirami, and the ‘Natural Artist’ Rohini. However, as always, when Rajinikanth is in the film, it remains a Rajinikanth movie through and through.

For over 40 years, one man has single-handedly upheld his films and Tamil cinema within the history of world cinema. This unparalleled talent is something no one else in the world has been able to achieve. Rajinikanth, who has attained such a star status, continuously surpasses the achievements of his previous films with each new release over the past 30 years. His accomplishments, over these three decades, have not only become milestones in Tamil cinema but have been ‘trend setter’ in Indian cinema, making him an unshakable superstar and the number one actor in Indian cinema for the past quarter century.

Except for a couple of films, every movie Rajinikanth has acted in over the past 35 years has created a box office revolution. While each of his films has its own uniqueness, in the last eight years, the box office collections of his movies have consistently set a benchmark in Indian cinema. Notably, in Tamil Nadu, it has become common for his films to reach the ₹100 crore mark within the first three days of release. In July 2016, Kabali grossed ₹248 crore globally on its first day alone. Following that, 2.0, Petta, Darbar, Annaatthe, and Jailer all achieved record-breaking collections.

Among them, films like Kabali, Darbar, and Jailer reached the ₹100 crore mark in Tamil Nadu within just three days. Now, Vettaiyan has also achieved this milestone, reflecting Rajinikanth’s peak stardom. On its first day, Vettaiyan grossed ₹35.70 crore in Tamil Nadu, followed by ₹39.22 crore on the second day, and ₹40.11 crore on Saturday, setting a new record. With a total of ₹115.03 crore collected so far in Tamil Nadu alone, if the momentum continues for the next two weeks, it is expected that Vettaiyan will reach the massive ₹250 crore mark, hitting new heights in Tamil cinema.
