Reports have emerged that, before the 2026 Assembly elections, actor Vijay’s wife, Sangeetha, had filed a divorce petition against him in the Chengalpattu court and subsequently withdrew the petition after the election results were announced. However, as the divorce has not been legally finalised, Sangeetha remains Vijay’s legally recognised wife. When Vijay won the election and assumed office, there were reports that the family-related case was still pending. During the swearing-in ceremony, actress Trisha reportedly occupied a front-row seat, which led to various comments and discussions on social media.
Following reports that the divorce petition had been withdrawn, expectations and opinions began circulating on social media that Vijay and Sangeetha would resume living together. However, Trisha occupying a front-row seat at the Independence Day flag-hoisting ceremony once again became a subject of discussion and controversy. In particular, since Vijay is now holding political office, every public event involving him naturally attracts considerable attention and scrutiny.
After assuming office, Vijay travelled to London reportedly to attract business investments, and reports that actress Trisha had accompanied him became another major topic of discussion. Similarly, when Vijay travelled to London to inaugurate a car-racing event in which actor Ajith was participating, Trisha was also reportedly present with him. Vijay and Ajith have worked in the Tamil film industry during the same period and are widely known to have maintained a long-standing friendship. Some reports have claimed that the sight of the two families appearing to be together caused emotional distress to Sangeetha. It has also been reported that, after the divorce petition was filed, Sangeetha has largely stayed away from public events, apart from attending a funeral, and that her absence from public appearances has caused concern among her family members.
