The child safety awareness initiative undertaken by the Arani All-Women Police Station under the Tiruvannamalai District Police Department is highly commendable. As part of this initiative, an awareness programme was conducted for students at Malaipampattu Government High School.
During the programme, students were educated about the safety of girl children, prevention of crimes against children, the consequences of child marriage, and the importance of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Students were advised to approach their parents, teachers or police personnel without hesitation whenever they face problems, threats or unsafe situations.
In particular, the students were informed that child marriage is a social evil that affects children’s education, health, future and fundamental rights. Awareness was also created about the importance of the POCSO Act in preventing sexual offences against children and ensuring appropriate protection and legal assistance for affected children.
Furthermore, students were encouraged to report any threats, sexual harassment or unsafe situations without fear. Child safety is not merely the responsibility of the police department; it is a collective responsibility shared by parents, teachers, school administrations and society as a whole.
Let us protect children’s rights, prevent child marriage and build a safer society free from crimes against children. For emergency assistance and protection, children can contact the Child Helpline Number 1098. Such awareness programmes should be conducted regularly in schools to ensure that every child understands their rights and knows how to seek help when needed.
